CTE Staffer Makes the Big Time!

Natalie Backman, former CTE Choreographer and Dance Director, flew out last May to audition for the National Broadway Tour of the 30th Anniversary Production of Annie!

Martin Charnin, who wrote lyrics for Annie and directed the original Broadway production, lives in Issaquah now and sent her.  She passed
 with flying colors!

She is in the ensemble and is one of the Boylan Sisters.  She is also covering the Star-to-Be and Grace, so she'll have her hands full!

She will be in NYC the entire month of December performing at Madison Square Garden, and then on to Portland and Spokane as well as several other cities around the country.

Another exciting tid-bit is that the tour is supposed to wrap with a stint on Broadway to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the show! That's pretty great.  She says it’s a dream come true!

2004 Summer Workshops  -  A Great Success!

We put the wraps on a very successful summer season! We had great recitals, art work, dance, music in all the workshops, plus wonderful productions! It was a great experience for all.

Showcase culminated in the production of a musical comedy ”42nd Street!"  Set in 1933, it high-lighted all the fun of 'putting-on-a-show' on Broadway with one great Warren-Dubin number after another, making it a feast of titanium-plated hits.  Written by Rian James and James Seymour.

Arts Festival culminated in an original production, titled: We’re Puttin' on a Show!”   Written by our own CTE Interns -  skits about producing a show. The work shop also offered other fun courses, including mime, music makers (instrumentation), rhythmic movement, world dance, beginning characterization,  and more.

Intensive culminated in the Tony-award winning musical "Pippin".  Set in the 9th Century Holy Roman Emperor, follows the life of Pippin, son of Charlemagne, who wonders how to find real meaning in his life, dabbling in war, sex, and politics before finally finding love. Written by Roger O. Hirson and Stephen Schwartz.

CTE Mystery Night a Big Success!

"A Wedding to Die For" was the wedding of the year!  Written by Eileen Moushey and directed by Kathy Dorgan, this was an audience participation murder mystery.   Wedding guests enjoyed great desserts and delicious sparkling cider, while solving an abundance of clues.   The energy was high and there was great camaraderie as each table worked together to be the first to solve the who dun'it.  Click on  wedding pictures to see the fun.  This event was sponsored by Batdorf & Bronson, San Francisco Street Bakery and CostCo.

Change in Showcase Play

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we've had to make a change in the play for our Showcase workshop this year. The authors of the play, Crazy for You, have just recently pulled the show out of circulation pending the national tour next year.

We have chosen a wonderful replacement,
42nd Street, a classic musical comedy set in 1933 with great songs and dancing.  It high-lights all the fun of 'putting-on-a-show' on Broadway with one great Warren-Dubin number after another, making it a feast of titanium-plated hits that include "You're Getting to Be a Habit with Me," "Dames," "We're in the Money," "Lullaby of Broadway," and, of course, the title song.
